The fans on my MBP just started buzzing and they definitely don't sound right. Still working fine though but when I turn them up with smcFanControl, its pretty bad. Almost like they are slightly grinding against something.

I am still under AppleCare but my question is, if I send it out or hand it over to the Apple Store to fix it, I'd like to lock some desktop folders before I do so. What do you guys do about this before you send it in for service? Can I lock applications too?

And what is a better choice and quicker, Apple Store or sending it in to Apple? I used to work at the Apple Store I'd take it to so I feel like it might be quicker to go through them, especially if they have the parts in stock.

If they have parts, I have heard reports that Apple stores can turn repairs around in as little as 24 hours.
