Hey, I'm planning to buy a macbook, right? American apple.com store sells the low-end model for $1099. Canadian low end is $1249. So I checked to see how much it would be after upgrades and taxes, which is $1568. After I realized those upgrades were included in the middle-end model, I decided I'd just go with that. The middle model is $1499, while American middle model is $1299, almost the same price as the low-end canadian. After taxes on the Canadian model, It's going to be about $1708. Which, is very close to the american macbook pro.

The Canadian dollar isn't that much lower, and it definately isn't worth 150$ extra to throw in a couple U's in some words. So, Why does Apple make Canadian prices so high, and also, What's with the lack of Canadian apple stores? There's about 4 of them, and they're all withing 100 km of eachother.

most of the price difference you're talking about comes from taxes, which come from the provincial and federal governments. the US$1099 price you mentioned converts to about CAN$1285, making apple's price for the low-end model actually cheaper in canada. if you think the price is too expensive, talk to your MP or MPP about lowering sales taxes.

$1700 including taxes about $400 less than the base MBP in the US with average state sales tax.

Agreed with above 2. I thought it might be cheaper to get it in the US. Even after 6% GST + 7% PST in Vancouver, BC, the MacBook I got (middle end) cost a bit less than getting one in LA, California at 8.25% tax.
