hello everyone.

i have owned a MBP c2d for a few weeks now and i love it. but.......this screen dimming on me is driving me nuts.

if i'm reading an article or something and i dont touch the computer for 3 mins the screen goes to half brightness i guess and then goes back all the way when i move the mouse or something.

i tried playing around in the system preferneces. in the energy saver for power adapter i unchecked the box that says "automatically dim screen before sleep" or something like that, so now after 15 minutes the screen should go to sleep but it shouldnt dim before it does. right? it keeps dimming though.

i also unchecked the box about automatically adjusting screen brightness according to ambient light.

am i missing something or is someting wrong with my new laptop?

this seems to be a common problem; i hate too seeing my screen dim even though i've set it not to.
(so am watching this thread as well to see what's up...)

My C2D MBP's display dimming is turned off and it works like it should.

Are you sure you have turned off display dimming in both locations? There's a setting for battery and power adapter use.

Have you tried resetting PRAM and/or deleting /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist ?

being a complete mac noob, i have no idea what you just said.

i tried playing around with both the power adapter and battery settings, to no avail. i set the sliders all the way over, and then clicked the lock at the bottom so it would need authorization to change anything. then it dimmed on me again, i went back into energy saver and the lock was open but i never put in a password. i'm really starting to get concerned cause i bought this laptop no more than 3 weeks ago.

um....are you reading the above posts?
we've established:
• a common problem, so no need for alarm.

• you can follow the path above (open your hard drive, go to Library folder, then Preferences folder, and delete the abovementioned file...you'll need your password.

anyway...3 weeks? you can call apple if you still need help with this, you've got free phone support...

If you don't know what 'reset PRAM' means I suggest using Finder > Mac Help (up there in the menu) or going to http://www.apple.com/support and searching for the phrase.

If you don't know what file I was talking about just open a Finder window and follow the path I gave you. At the end you'll find a file called com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and you can drag that to the trash to delete it.
