I've just bought a new Samsung Syncmaster 205 bw external monitor with the idea of connecting it to my Powerbook.
This monitor is wide 16:10 and it has a native resolution of 168x1050.
When I connect it to my powerbook automatically the resolution of external monitor is set to his native resolution but the displayed image doesn't fit with the entire width of the monitor. I mean, is little than the visualizable area of the monitor and i don't know how expand it.
I scanned the web and i've found this Apple developer note. It basically says that I can't change the resolution of an external monitor to a resolution higher than the 1440x960 of my powerbook, because the image will not fit in the display.

Someone had this problem too?? Somebody knows if i can fix it??

Thank you!

PD: In Your forum i read about This software switchResX do u think it can help me with the problem I have? is it save to use it?

PDD: I want to aplogize for my low level english.

Well, finally i found the solution.

If u run the powerbook in clamshell(with the powerbook closed - attaching to it a keyboard, a mouse and a monitor) mode it lets u to choose the output resolution u need.

And that's all

You're probably using mirroring, meaning the resolution on the PB and the monitor must be the same. Try pushing F7 to switch to spanning mode.
