So far as I know, new PowerMac or MacPro batteries are not compatible with the MacBook. Is there a particular reason why you need to use a desktop Mac battery in a MacBook?

Since the motherboard batteries in desktop Macs are not rechargeable, the answer is 'no' - draining them will greatly reduce their theoretical longevity in a MacBook.

ps - this means you should post MacBook questions in the MacBook Forum, as per our posting rules.

Completely draining it is a good way to figure out what it's capacity is, but in general it's bad to completely drain lithium batteries. Doing it once for calibration is a good idea, but don't do it every time.
