Hello All,

I decided I'd help my girlfriend out by replacing the 40 gig drive in her 12 inch pb with a new 80 gig drive. I've replaced plenty of drives in plenty of machines without issue before. This one, not so much.

Earlier today, I put the drive in an external case, installed the Tiger on it, and her additional software, so it would be ready to go when I got it into the machine.

I followed one of the many online guides for taking it apart. Everything seemed to come apart fine, as would be expected, with one hiccup .... I think I damaged the microphone / speaker cable, the green and gray cable plugged into the board. I swapped out the drive with one of these

I put everything back together, put in the battery, plugged it into the wall and no boot. Not even a chime, fan, drive spin up, nothing.

I took it all apart again, made sure everything was connected, still no go. So, I took it apart a 3rd time and put the old drive back in it, put it back together and still nothing.

When plugged in without a battery the power indicator is the normal green. With the battery in, it's orange. But thats as far as it goes.

Could I have fried something? Could a busted microphone / speaker cable prevent the machine from running? I know the power cable is fine (red and black into the board) .

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

If you take the lid off, you can power it on by sticking something metal between the pins where the power button connects. Just to make sure its not the button. That is the most likely cause.

Also, if you pull the power plug out rather than levering it, the connector can come away from the board.
