i've just (finally) added a 2nd monitor to my setup (12" 1.5g powerbook); it's an LG 19" widescreen (excellent!).
sometimes, i cannot move a window past the menubar on my pb, to the second monitor. this seems random, ie it's usually fine, but sometimes not.
i've taken to then moving the menubar to the 2nd monitor; i move the window, then return the menu to the pb.
why does this happen? and is there a 'trick' (or scientifically-approved method!) for moving windows past the menu when they get stuck??

Which "side" of the laptop is the 2nd monitor on, both physically and in the displays system preference?

it is physically (and in 'arrangement') above the powerbook (so i am sometimes stuck trying to move a window ABOVE the menubar).

Just to verify, is this how you have the monitors arranged in Displays preferences?

yeah, my external is above the powerbook.
every now & then, when i try to move a window to the upper monitor, it gets stuck at the menubar...

I think the problem is that when the two monitors are logically above or below one another, there is a dead spot on the side where you cannot slide into. Try making them logically the same height and see if this goes away.

hmmm...
well, they are physically one above the other.
meanwhile, have not had a problem with any window since updating to 10.4.9 (prob coincidence), but am good for now...

I realize they are physically above one another, but making them logically above one another creates parts of the screen where you cannot move from one to the other. If you get problems again, try this out... Good luck!

not really sure what you mean...
when they are located (in displays 'arrangement') above one another, moving the mouse up moves it to the upper monitor & so on.
if i place the ext. monitor left, the 'logic' of moving the mouse disappears...
anyway, everything seems to be good (knock on wood)

What i mean is, in monitor settings, you can move the logical locations of the monitors up or down or left or right.
I am suggesting you keep the left / right logic, but ignore the up/down. If you place the two monitors on the same height logically (regardless of their actual height relationship) you will not create 'dead' spots where you cannot move between them. The left / right relationship will be preserved, but the up/down one will not be perfect. I'm suggesting that if your problem persists, you might want to try this as a potential cure. Good luck!
