Hey y'all!

Thinking about getting a 17" MacBook Pro. Thing is, I'm one picky bastard, and two of the ones I've seen on display so far don't close flush with the bottom case. What happens is, the LCD side of the case bows out at the edges - the area in the middle near the latch(es) makes contact first, but the edges to the left and right are bowed upwards a millimeter or so from the bottom part of the case. Sure, a millimeter isn't a lot, but when dealing with such a wide display, it's totally noticeable and pretty ugly.

So I wanted to ask, has anyone that bought one in the past few months experienced this issue? I'd really like to wait for an updated case, more like the MacBook with a latchless, magnetic closure, but I can't be sure that that'll be included in the next round of updates. =)

TIA!

The bowing that you describe is common in both 15" and in 17" MBPs. It has been present in some degree in most of the models I have looked at. My 17" C2D MBP bows 1-2 mm from right to left, IMO no big deal. However I did send one back that was a solid 1/8+ inch on a 15" MBP. One can return any MBP within 14 days for any reason, but IMO if it bothers you a lot you should buy from a brick-and-mortar store where you can see it before you take it home.

Don't count on an iBook-type closure ever for a 17" MBP because the structural needs of such a large heavy screen are quite different than those of a MB.

I also have it very slightly, but have alleviated the problem through the use of a screen protector.
