Ok, my coverage expired 3/11. I bought AppleCare on the 10th. I had a family emergency and couldn't activate it until today. But I'm not covered. Do you think they would make an exception being that I purchased AppleCare prior to my coverage lapsing?

As long as you have both the receipt for the original purchase of your MacBook Pro, and the receipt of the AppleCare purchase to prove that you did indeed purchase it prior to the first year warranty, then I don't see why they wouldn't honour it. Your best bet is to sort it in person, at an Apple Store.

Good luck,

Ditto the above, you won't be able to register on line; face to face with the receipt should work. Hopefully there is an Apple store nearby!

I ran into that same problem. Got AppleCare for a Christmas present, but because of the holiday hoopla, I didn't get around to registering it until about a month after (by then, my warranty had expired.) All I needed to tell them was what Apple store it was bought at and who bought it. They looked up, found it, and said everything was good to go. Hooked me up with my warranty.

Just a quick update on this in case anyone else runs into this issue. I went into my local Apple Store and was informed that it couldn't be resolved at the store level. So I called the 1800-APL-CARE number given to me by a mac genius. Sat in my car on the cell phone for about 25 minutes and everything was fixed. The people on the phone were speaking 'American' English too, much to my surprise.
