Hi all,

Hoping that someone out there can assist me... I am an experienced Mac user (10yrs+) but I am at my wits end over a couple of things on my new MacBook. Am running OSx.4.8. Ok, problem number 1 - for some unknown reason, the date is showing the month as "12" even though on date and time preferences it is set to March. Have tried letting it set automatically and have repeatedly hanged the date and then changed back to the current one in the hope it would work. It doesn't and all my documents etc are date stamped incorrectly. Any other ideas?

Problem number 2 - have installed Opera as my internet browser but how do I set it to be my default web browser? Can't find anything in preferences (both system and programme) and so whenever I click on a link outside of Opera (on Dashboard for example) it opens Safari. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Problem number 3 - I have set up a large number of different "locations" for my airport. Have gone into preferences and deleted all but the one I ACTUALLY need but they are still showing.

If anyone can help with any of these problems, it would be much appreciated! Many thanks!

To set Opera to the default browsers go to preferences in Safari, and select Opera from the dropdown list

Sorry I don't know about your other problems

Have you downloaded the latest daylight savings time update? Make sure you update to 10.4.9 too.

If the airport is an actual apple airport station, go to applications> Utilities> Airport admin utility> and see if you can delete either more than one station or more than one location.

If that doesn't work, go to the same utilities folder, and go to the airport express setup utility, select your station, or network, and make changes to it, do not create a new one, there should be a choice between them. You should be able to delete them from there.

I am not on a mac now, so I can't tell remember what you see in system preferences, but try going into network or something like that.

Problem #2
Open Safari web browser. go to its preferences. On the general tab you will have the choice of which default browser should be used for the web. Counterintuitive, yes. Works, yes.

Its the same problem I had with iPhoto and automatically recognizing when you connect a photo. The pref is not in iPhoto, its in a application called Image Capture and ITS preferences.

Apple should get more on the ball and include a system pref for setting default apps for all kinds of services, etc. Instead they have the prefs in obscure places!
