I had a thread earlier on this forum, and most of you guys said that my RAM could possibly be bad. At this point, this is what my macbook does: after it goes to sleep, you will hear the CD drive acting like it's ejecting a CD (nothing in the drive). After that, the computer is on (not sleeping). When I open the lid again, I cannot see the screen, but you can hear the fan of the CPU. I have to hold the power button down to reset it. Not sure how long after it goes to sleep, but it does happen - more and more regularly.

I called Apple, and they said the sound is probably my hard drive. If any hard drive makes that sound, it is dying.
So far, apple tier 1tech support is as bad as I have received from other hardware and software vendors. For background - I am an IT mgr in charge of a 70 user base - plenty of experience in dealing with this. In all fairness, I expect very little from tier 1 support, but the fact that he said that a noticeable sound from the hard drive is ok does not bode well.

Enough of that - how can I convince them to send me new RAM? It is easy with Dell, when you know how to talk to support. As soon as tech support asked if I reset the PRAM, I knew I lost.

Why not do a RAM memory test? There is another thread about this where somebody provided a link to the GUI for memtest, and there is discussion of the Apple Hardware Diagnostic CD.

Look for the CD that came with your computer that says it has "AHT" on it, and follow the directions on the CD. I think you hold down the option Key while you turn on your computer, and it will come up as an option. Inside that application you can test various components of your computer.
