ok, i really need to upgrade my memory (256 and trying to run photoshop, illustrator, etc at the same time can be annoying)

so i'm going to buy a 1g stick. here's my question. first, i don't really feel like paying apple an extra almost 200 bucks for the apple name. from what i understand crucial makes some good memory. on their site, if i look up what i need it comes up and is $124. when i go to newegg, i can find a stick that has all the same specs from what i can tell, but is only listed in the pc section, not mac (and not the same part #). but there are a few reviews from people saying it works great in their powerbook, or whatever. they are both 1g, 200 pin, ddr sodimm ddr333 pc2700, both voltage 2.5, cas latency 2.5, ecc no, unbuffered. and so on. from what i can tell every spec is the same. one person does mention having asked a crucial rep if they were the same and the guy said yes and told him to buy the cheaper one.

i guess i'm just trying to get a 2nd opinion. for reference i have a 1.33ghz g4 14" ibook.

i know 25 bucks isn't a huge difference, but when you're a student...thats food for a week or so

thanks!

RAM is RAM - PC or Mac. As long as they have a decent return policy I would get the cheaper stick.
timeline - SE/30, some crappy performa, original bondi iMac 233, TiBook500, macbook pro 2GHz

not all RAM is made equal. it's like saying a car is a car. or an orange is an orange. wouldn't you agree there are quality differences between difference cars or oranges?

anyway... stick with major brands, as they test their ram more. a lot of generic ram comes from major brands, but may not pass ALL the tests to be branded by them.

it's fine buying cheaper ram, just careful... that $10 or $20 may buy you a week of food... but what about losing / corrupting all your data? what's that worth?

I prefer: Kingston, Crucial, Samsung, Hynix, Corsair, Nanya, Mushkin

And you should be able to find one for about $90 on newegg.
