I like having my alarm clock on my computer but the one thing I have noticed with my new MB is that it always goes to sleep after it sits for a little bit (which is fine). So I went to go turn off the sleep mode so my alarm clock would go off and on the bottom it was saying that not allowing the computer go to sleep with shorten its life. I then went to go experiement with the waking up feature in Preferences and it didn't work so right now I don't allow my computer to see in order for my alarm clock to go off. Ideally I want to have the computer fall asleep and then wake up 15 minutes before my alarm goes off, is this possible or am I doing something wrong?

Go to System Preferences-->Energy Saver-->"Schedule" button

Then check the "start up or wake" check box and set the days / time you want your Mac to wake up. Then click on "OK"

You're moving the wrong slider. If you move the slider for the SCREEN to never turn off, it will give you the warning.
