Hi,

I have a powerbook g4 17" 1.5ghz. A few months ago, seemingly out of the blue, the screen went bonkers. The best way to describe it is to say it looked like an old vga screen with like 64 colors or whatever. Oddly, a few weeks later it was back to normal. Very unusual. But last week when I tried to start it up, all that happened is the normal 'bong', and the sound of the dvd drive spinning up. The screen did not come on at all. So I restarted it, and the same thing happened except this time the screen came on, and the broken disk icon appeared on the screen for a few seconds, then it started up as normal. This continued in the same manner until today, when all I get is the bong and the the dvd spinning up, and then nothing. No screen powering on, no hard drive sound. **UPDATE** after letting the powerbook sit for about an hour, it now starts up again. that seems to be the pattern. when I try to restart it, the same thing happens.

Does anyone have any insight?

Thanks,
Tom

Thanks so much!!

My G4 PB motherboard failure evolved something like that and took the hard drive with it. Most important is to fully back up your data before full failure occurs because Apple insists on doing a wipe of the hard drive as part of any repair.
