I have a G3 ibook, and am trying to figure out why, and how to stop a really strong chemically, somewhat burning smell that comes from the computer when I turn it on. The cd player on this machine does not work, but the dvd player does. Otherwise it's fine, no problem, but the smell makes me want to not have it on.
I just took it to a "genius" at the Apple store, and he said it was the battery about to go, but I don't buy that because I took it home, took the battery out, sniffed the battery, no smell. Fired up the computer, and the smell is strong as ever. There's never been a problem with the battery not holding a charge, and it's usually used plugged into a wall outlet anyway. Any wisdom out there?

It's probably just the smelly keyboard issue:

If it is, it's nothing to worry about, but there's also not too much you can do about it.

Either your logic board is shot or something electrical is going.

naw, i have the same damn problem coming from the computer that I catch every now and again. Don't worry, I have a kinda new battery and the computer is in good condition. It just smells like **** sometimes. I have a 14" 800 and it only seems to do this when the fan goes off.
