Ok while i dont have the money for the yet I have been thinking much about this.

I would love to get the MBP 17 In display and the fact that it is one inch thick is awsome.

but i dont really think i need that power but on the other hand my iBook G4 (1.33 GHz) feels every day to be getting slower and slower.... and I dont want to be stuck with some thing like this again i love my iBook but i see the beach ball alot more than i used to. but i would also like a really light laptop like a subnote book...... but the MBP looks nice and i like the look of it.

This is what i do on my iBook

~iTunes
~Write papers
~surf web (a lot)
~and i plan to get a video camera soon so prob will use iMovie as well

i prob wont buy untill the summer i am getting a job and will hope to buy in the second half of the summer unless apple releases something i must have at WWDC. Another resign is that i want 10.5 to be on it. so what do you think i should get i would like a note book but i have been thinking about an iMac....
o and which model should i get?

The world of computers, applications and student needs is dynamic; volatile even. Ask this question two weeks before your anticipated purchase date, because things will change between now and the second half of the summer. In the meantime stay on top of the rumors and tech websites to get a feel for where hardware/software may be going.

Having used both a MBP and MB extensively, they're both great systems. I think it really comes down to how much you want to spend. The MB has a smaller display, but that may not be a factor for you. It's easy to hook up an external LCD, and they're relatively inexpensive these days. You could get a MB and 20" LCD for about the same or less than a MBP. It's really going to come down to your personal preferences.
Thinking of buying a new Mac? My free ebook might help.

If I were you I'd hold out until the next rev of MacBooks as Intel has a much improved integrated graphics solution (GMA3000 I think). Otherwise, get the MacBook.

Here's the rumor it'll be in the next MacBook, nit these kind of rumors are almost 100%: http://www.hardmac.com/news/2006-10-24/.

Are you sure that something isn't wrong with your iBook? It should handle iTunes and writing papers just fine. I write all my papers on a 533 MHz G4 with no issues

I highly recommend maxing out the RAM on your iBook. The beach ball will appear a lot less often, if ever. My GF is an English major, so her papers often go over 50 pages and have a few images in them (she does first edition research, so pictures of books). Before I put a 1 Gb chip in her 1Ghz iBook it would beach ball when opening the file and scrolling through pages, or the worsest, when she would make a change on page 3 and stalled out to crank the page layout change for the rest of the document. Now, she can be as lazy as she wants about closing apps or editing page 3 and it just keeps on working.

Paging is the number 1 cause of beach balls, the solution is more RAM.

Agreed - unless you are looking for an excuse to replace it, it's worth checking why that machine is so slow.
