Finally broke down and bought a new battery for my
Pismo Powerbook. Question - Does anyone believe
that leaving the new battery in the Pismo at all times
shortens the life of the battery? Would it be better
when not it use to store it way charged and pull it out
as needed? I have heard a couple of different perspectives
on this. Curious how this forum might respond.

How much do you use the thing? It is pretty inconvenent to take a battery out and put it back in again, and doing it every time you turn it off will start to wear away at the electrodes. I personally dont think it will make much of a difference. Laptop batteries are made to last 2-4 years in a laptop. Knowing the age of your powerbook, you probably shouldnt worry anyway. Im guessing that laptop wont hold out much longer, condiering the specs (leopard prob wont run on it) and the age.

Basically just leave it in. if you want to that bad, you can pull it out, but be sure to occasionally use it...

What battery did you get anyways? Does the manufacturer have a long warranty?

2 year warranty on the battery. Got it through batteries.com for
70 bucks shipped. Long live my Pismo. FYI, a new MBP 15" is
on the way. Gonna be hard to say so long to the Pismo. Been
and still is a great machine!

Well, you realy shouldnt worry about it. Just keeping in the battery should let it last for a few years. Apple recomends you do a bunch of stuff like calibration to your battery, but i really dont recommend it. Note that apple sells batteries. Just use it as any other battery, and it should last at least 2 years. In the event that it doesnt, you can use the warranty.

It's against the forum signature rule, which, at least in the past, was enforced pretty religiously.
