I'm considering buying a used iBook G4 & I need some help placing a value on it. I'm also up for suggestions on what I should do when I have the chance to put my hands on it to check it out before buying.
The info I have on it is as fallows, but if there is any more details that would help I could ask the seller for the information.

iBook G4,
512MB Physical Ram
PowerPC G4 @ 1.33 GHz Processor
134 MHz Bus frequency

I think it has a 12inch display & a 60GB Hard drive. The seller tells me that the iBook still has 30months of apple care protection program. Is the apple care protection program transferable?

I've been using Windows based PC's for many years now and I know next to nothing about mac's.
I'd like to come up with a list of questions to ask the seller and I'd like to get an idea of what I need to do when I check this thing out myself.

Here's a couple of pictures.

I noticed, you took a picture of your screen with a camera. Well there's handy program called grab which is standard on OSX. Use it.

$400 - $500 max. I own that computer and they paid ~$999 roughly 18+ months ago.

FleaBay is always a good place to start when looking at prices. This machine would run around $650 there.

Ask him if the machine has ever been in for service - either to repair or upgrade. Is the battery part of the recall program? What kind of life does the battery have left? Is it a superdrive or a combo? Why did he stop using it and/or why are they selling it? Does it come with a charger? Does it have an airport card (it *should* but you never know....)?

Other than that, basically your used car-type questions. Yeah, they can lie, but you can probably get a sense of whether you think they are or not.

Keep in mind that if he said 30 months, you are getting the extended warranty (normally $150-200). If you wanted to get the machine 'new' (refurbished usually, since Apple isn't producing new ones), they're about $700 without extended warranty. AppleCare (the warranty) is transferrable.

I'd value it around $600.

Keep in mind that you can get a refurbished MacBook (1st gen) for around $800, so unless you have specific reasons for looking at an iBook, or you get a very good deal, you may want to reconsider.
