I am considering selling my 1.42 Ghz iBook and getting a new MacBook. My question is when Apple came out with Tiger was their a price increase in the hardware?

When I went on to Apple's Website I spoke with a representative via LiveChat and he said that the Leopard pricing tables had yet to be published. I'm wondering if it would be better for me to not wait to buy a MacBook and just upgrade to Leopard.

Does anyone know what Apple did when they came out with their last OS update?

Thanks,
Chris

I think within a certain amount of time they will offer you a free upgrade to their latest OS. If that helps any.

I usually wait for the first upgrade after an OS upgrade. It works for me.

But if I need a system, I get a system.

I'm in this dilemma too.

I really could to with a laptop to revise stuff at work in the dead time but with the WWDC in june / july (?) I don't want to buy just yet only to miss out on new fangled stuff whatever it may be.

I might just have to take the plunge & then avoid mac websites & tech sites in general for a few months :/

The "time to buy" will never come. Even if your product was just revised, it can be replaced. Look at the last gen of G5 iMacs.

If you need it now, buy it now. If you don't need it now, don't bother with it now.

The best time to buy is always right after an update. It's the longest time before the next update. I mean seriously, updates will keep coming. So pick an update and buy. It's so far since the last update that I would assume that you just wait for the next one before you buy.

Unless you need it right now.. then buy right now...

I hope there's an update to the Macbooks before June. But I guess if it does come in June it'll be an added bonus since the OS will come along at the same time anyway.

I agree with that to an extent but I also disgree. The time to buy will come. I've never really needed power in a portable - I don't really need it now. My current Mac is a 366mhz G3 iBook. The only think I was holding out for a 1280 or better display - the new Macbook fills that need.

The waiting game is also important as the intel macbooks are still pretty brand new. With WWDC just round the corner, I think waiting just that little bit extra is a good idea if your need isn't mission critical. It's going to be April's pay cheque that will get me the macbook so it's really only a matter of waiting another month after that

I laptop for work would be a great asset to me but I can still access all I need (tuorials etc) but it's a pain as it's on virtual machine so I'm often suffering from lack of bandwidth
