I was wondering how much processing power does a second display take up? I connect a 21" display to my 12" PB to do video and graphic work and I can hear the fan going wildly indicating that the second display is sucking a lot of juice from the PB. I was just wondering what are the official stats on the ram or cpu usage of the 2nd display if anyone knows. And is there a way to optimize the PB to be used with a second display for conservation of computing power?

Would appreciate some thoughts.

Having a second display uses a lot of graphics power on my 12" PowerBook (but I only have a 32 Mb card and you have a 64 Mb card). Because of the extra work on the graphics card, the fan has to come on to cool down the graphics card. If you can lift up the PowerBook so that it has a lot of air flowing under it that will help a bit. Right now I have my PowerBook on top of two hard back books next to my monitor and it's very cool.

I'm guessing it's the video and graphic work making the fans spin up more than just the fact that you have another display connected. That said, with two displays, the vram is split between the two displays, so you're going to have reduced performance from the graphics card.
