Every now and then, my MacBook stops and tells me I need to restart by holding down the power button till the computer shuts off. The screen fades out a little with the warning box in the middle in english and various other languages.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? this occurs randomly without warning.

That is a kernel panic. It's the OSX equivalent of a blue screen on Windows.
They can be caused by a hardware or software problem. Try reinstalling OSX, but if they persist it's probably bad hardware.
