New MacBook, Battery Trouble, Help!!!

ive had my new macbook since august of 06' and ive never had this problem before. every time my power cable is detached from the computer my computer shuts down and will not turn back on unless the cable is plugged in. im assuming its a battery problem?
please help
white macbook, 2ghz, 1gb of ram, 80gb hd.

Flip the computer over and press the little button that's on the battery. Do the indicator lights come on? If not, then the battery is dead. If they do come on, then you'll need to troubleshoot it further. Assuming the battery is firmly in place, and it still isn't working with a charged battery, then you indeed have a hardware issue which you will have to consult Apple to repair (under warranty).
