My iBook was working just fine before I went on holiday and left it switched off for 2 weeks. Now, it will switch on and log in, but it will go no further. I have tried booting holding down the option key and the command-option-p-r combination but to no avail. Does anyone know the reason for this, and the solution? Thanks.

See if booting in safe mode helps. Does the hard drive make any particular noise before it hangs? Do you have another user account you can try to log in from?
