From what I'm reading on the net and in my own personal experience many C2D MBPs have a squeaky space bar (hit it on the right side to hear the squeak).

Apart from trying to hit it on the left side, are there any solutions to this problem? It's not a big deal, but when you're in a basically silent environment and your MBP is squeaking away it tends to bug others around you.

Take it back under warranty.

Definitely not. I'm not going to return a perfectly working notebook that I use for 16h a day to do work due to a squeaky space bar. I was rather thinking about something along the lines of Super Lube.

When the keyboard of my Macbook Pro 17" Core Duo (Revision A) was replaced, it did come back somewhat stiff and had a spacebar that was intermittantly squeaky. The problem has since diminished significantly -- but I use this thing a LOT.

My guess is the problem will go away over time. (My keyboard was replaced about two months ago. Maybe three. Now my spacebar is back to normal.)

One thing I noticed is that heat seems to diminish the squeak. Not sure if that will help anyone. But if you're going nuts, maybe just run an iTunes visualizer. Or Parallels -- good lord, that application cooks my hands sometimes.

Sorry about resurrecting such an old thread, but the spacebar on my one week old MBP (brand spankin' new) is starting to squeak a little bit. It's just enough to get me somewhat annoyed. Has this happened to anyone else's new MBPs? I'm definitely not returning this for warranty service or an exchange, but thought I'd ask people around here to see what they've done to get rid of it. Mine is more squeaky between the middle and right side of it.

Thanks.

Just to let you know -- the squeak did eventually disappear. I can't think of the last time I heard it, which means it's been gone for about six months. That's about as far as I can remember back anymore.

Pesky video games. Rotted my brain!
