Hello,

I have a Powerbook G4 1.67 I bought a year and a half ago. Recently my water bottle broke open in my bag and leaked all over my powerbook. I dried it out for 24 hours and the computer booted up fine. I believe the water soaked in mainly on the left side of the computer where the DC adapter plugs in because the left speaker no longer works. I also am having many other bizaare issues I cannot figure out. First, when I close the clamshell, the computer no longer goes to sleep (on AC adapter) and instead shuts off the power immediately. If I hit the power button, the window asking me if I want to shutdown no longer appears but instead the computer immediately shuts off and restarts. If I shut down the computer through the apple menu it will shutdown properly, but as soon as I close the clamshell it will trigger the computer to turn back on and a loud chime will sound, the sleep light will flash quickly, and it boots in to a firmware screen where I need to type mac-boot to proceed, which ineveitably results in a failed startup. Opposite to the AC adapter, if I am running off battery and I close the clamshell, the computer will go in sleep mode. In summary, when I get the computer up and running, it seems to run fine. I just can't shut it down properly, reboot, or tigger sleep mode normally anymore. Any idea what the water could have damaged? I have reset both the PRAM and PMU now. There was no effect.

Thanks.

MIke

A couple of things - you might want to check that you really have dried everything out properly - put it in front of a forced air vent, or in a dry warm place for a week when it's not in use. Secondly, you might have damaged one or more components in the shut down process - it's hard to diagnose that remotely.
