Hi, was wondering if any of you awesome experts could help me out with this one. My disc slot won't allow any discs in because of some sort of jam. I suspect that it due to wear and tear. There is this felt like sticker inside that prevents the discs from getting scratched. I pulled out one of my discs and i took a bit of that felt like thing with it. So now it's all mangled up inside. Is there any way I can open the computer up myself and pull the felt stuff off? I'd rather do it myself than go to a mac store because I'm no longer under warranty. Of course if there's no way, I'll have no choice but to do that. But I thought I'd consult with you guys first.

Yeah, you can open the computer...but not sure about the disc slot. My old laptop (non-Mac) had these weird looking screws which needed special tools to open up certain parts of the laptop; but I am not sure if thats the case with the disc drive you have.

iFixit has disassembly guides for extracting the CD-ROM mechanism from your PowerBook. Most likely you'll have to replace the whole CD mechanism though. OWC (among many others) has replacements.

hey guys, thanks for the advice. i was looking at iFixit for that dissasembly guide and it only had instructions on how to take the whole cdrom out. i've been trying to stick a disc in to see if it'd catch the piece of sticker that's blocking the way. i wish i had a flat pair of tweezers so i could just pull it out.

im wondering how much this would cost if i brought it into the mac store.
