Hi
This is my first ever post to a forum. My airport signal shuts down after I open my IBook. I always need to restart my computer to use my internet connection. My son's PC has not problem opening with the airport wireless connection. I think my airport card may be bad. How do I check? thanks for any help it is very frustrating.

What do you mean by the signal shuts down? Are you saying that opening the machine and waking it from sleep causes you to be unable to connect to any wireless network, and you have to restart to get it to work? What operating system version? Has it always been this way?

You can do a basic hardware check with the Apple Hardware Test CD that came with your machine (insert CD, restart holding down 'C'). You can check if the Airport card is properly connected by following these instructions.

Welcome to the forums!

(1) What type of wireless router do you use? Is it an Airport (i.e. Apple) base station or a third party (D-Link, Linksys, etc.) wireless router?

(2) Is your access point firmware up to date? Linksys WRT54G units had an issue with assigning DHCP addresses to "certain devices" and a firmware update fixed that.

(3) Is your OS X installation up to date? There was an update that came out a month or so ago that addresses compatibility with some third-party wireless routers.
