Just how difficult is it to replace a LB on a Powerbook G4 13 inch? Is it something which can be done at home by a semi-novice?

Since Apple never release a 13 inch PB G4, I'd guess it'd be very difficult. If you're talking about the 12 inch, the instructions are here. Judge for yourself. It's not trivial, but if you do it slowly and carefully, there's no reason why it shouldn't work.

There is a 13inch MacBook though - you might be thinking of that?

Thanks for the instructions, but YEOW! It's the first time I've felt good about paying for labor (not that I've decided to get it fixed yet). It seems to be true what I've often heard: that the 12 inch G4 powerbook is among the most difficult ever mac laptops to crack.

It's kinda like a 120 piece jigsaw puzzle. Only problem is some of the pieces seem interchangeable! iBook G4 is definitely worse.

If you use a screw chart, there aren't really _that_ many pieces to keep track of though.

I find that a piece of self stick shelf paper comes in very handy(sticky side up).

You can draw on it and label where each screw came from and stick the screws to it.
