OK, the G4 iBook's insomnia problem is solved, now another issue: I replaced the hd with a Fujitsu 80 GB unit. Is there a firmware upgrade that I should now install? I've never known where firmware went inside a computer; the hd seems likely, but maybe other components are also affected. All advice gratefully received.

Unless the new drive is malfunctioning, there's no need. Hard drive upgrades shouldn't require anything different on the software end.
