Hey guys I'm dumping my PC Laptop for a Mac Laptop. Heres the dilema I'm running into. I really love the Ibook 12' but they lack a DVD burner. I can get those for about 500 dollars right now on ebay. I really want to keep the price to around that amount. Are there any external DVD burners compatible with those Ibooks.
Would you guys recommend that I invest a little more money in a Macbook or is there a Powerbook that will fill my needs.
Basic Needs.
1. Airport
2. DVD Burner
3. 12 inch - 14 inch screen (highly portable, good battery life)
thanks.

Yes i would spend a little more and get a macbook. Makes more financial sense as it will last you for much longer! As well as it having an intel processor it will be much faster, it will have all the things you need built in!!!!

Since you're on a really tight budget, what about getting a 12" PB? Rev C and D had AP cards built in. Rev A and B have a slot to insert the card. Some of them came with DVD burners. The 12" PB is even more portable than the iBook and it's sexier.
Of course if there's any way to spend a little more money I'd get a MB - check the refurbs for best offers. It's not quite as portable as the 12" PB, but it will perform so much better and last longer.

yah that might be a good choice. i like the idea of getting a refurbished mac because it can save me some $$$.
Could you point me in a good direction for some powerbooks. i haven't been to find them as easy as the ibooks
thanks!

I started of looking at the PowerBook 12 inches when i was looking for a laptop recently then i started to look at the 12 inch iBook's and nearly bought one but i started to consider the 14 inch iBook's and ended up getting one in the end.
I am glad that i went with the 14inch iBook over the 12 inch because the 14 inch model is not that much bigger than the 12 inch iBook. I manage a 14inch iBook just fine.
The 14 inch iBook has got a DVD burner, larger HD and a slightly faster processor than the 12 inch iBook.
I to would suggest a PowerBook to you as well but keep an eye out for a refurb MacBook or the prices of second hand ones as well.

I'd suggest a 12" PowerBook as well. My boyfriend has one that we both use all the time. The new MacBooks feel cheap and seem to have a history of physical defects and problems.
Plus a 12" PowerBook is more portable than a MacBook, and unless you're doing serious gaming or 3D rendering, the processor is plenty fast.

Before accepting a statement that an iBook is plenty fast, maybe you should tell us what you plan to do with it. If you need a DVD burner because you are going to be making movies, then the iBook is most certainly not plenty fast. If you need a DVD burner to backup your thousands of Word documents that you will be composing on a daily basis, then save the money and get the iBook.

At this point I'm livid. I "sold" my laptop on ebay yesterday for 1,225. Turns out someone hacked these peoples accounts and the auction was canceled.
So now instead of selling the my pc laptop (Dell Dimension e1705) I'll probably just keep it. It has all the stuff I need and is very powerful. Problem is, it's not very portable.
Therefore I will just end up scooping up a cheap 12' Ibook from somebody when I need to have something portable with battery life.
If anyone has an specific recommendations on the Ibook 12' (version, prices, etc) let me know.
thanks
