I had spent 40 days with my black C2D-MB. Until now I havent faced any problem accept the heat. Its a LAPTOP, and I intend to use it that way sitting on my sofa or so. But I find that after about 15~20 mnts the bottom of macbook start toasting my thighs(while I am in my pajamas). It doesnt burn but its not comfertable at all. So always I have to keep something in between, like my notebook pouch or a big size hard bound book or so. The CPU temp at that moment was 60 degrees.
With this experience I cannot classify MB as a laptop. How many of you
use your MBs really on your laps? and dont panic.

I use mine on my laptop but I use a cooler to protect my lap. For the record Apple does not recommend using the macbook on your lap :/

I haven't upgraded yet, but I never let my 1Ghz TiBook sit directly on my lap. I still value my reproductive abilities.

That was just too much info!
I haven't noticed my MacBook being too hot for laptop use, but at the same time when I'm away from a desk (and AC power) I'm not doing anything processor-intensive so the system tends to run on the cool side of normal (52-55 C).
I'll keep a closer eye on it and see if that's accurate or if I'm full of hot air.
