Hi,
As an experiement, I put 2 2GB DIMM's in my 2.16ghz MBP C2d. The system profiler reports 4GB of RAM. Does this mean that the machine is capable of addressing all 4GB or will it only address 3GB?
I thought these machines had an upper limit of only 3GB.

What does activity monitor say? Apple has a history of making machines that can actually accept more than is marketed sometimes.

945PM physically supports 4GB RAM. Due to addressing issues, you can only use about 3.4GB of it. But as far as I know, Apple arbitrarily sets a 3GB limit (2GB on Core Duo Macs).
What does Activity Monitor show for memory?

The chipset limits to 4 GB physically. But software can only address about 3.2 GB.
The 3 GB limit is advertised by Apple to prevent people from wasting money. You can of course put 4GB in there if you buy a second 2 GB DIMM from another vendor.
Santa Rosa will not have this "addressing waste" and allow you to use the entire 4 GB.
There's a lot of baloney being spread about the 3 GB RAM limit. A while ago Rolling Musubi wrote a nice post with some very interesting links on the topic.
