Hi again, I dare say you'll all be completly sick of me soon, I'll be posting lots for help and questions. I had a PC, monitor broke for it, so me and my parents went out looking for a monitor, we ended up getting me a macbook. But a monitor for my PC is still needed, but I was thinking, woud I be able to connect my macbook to any old monitor or will I need a specific model or something?

Thanks

Depending on what kind of input the monitor has, you need a Mini-DVI->VGA or Mini-DVI->DVI adapter. Apple sells them for $19.

Connect the adapter to the monitor cable, turn on the monitor, connect the adapter to your MB's Mini-DVI output (in the image below it's labeled as "DVI Output"). Done.

Just looking at it, is there any way of extending the lead? I cant imagine my macbook being ablt to reach the back of where my monitor would be positioned.

The idea is to use a video cable between the monitor and the adapter.

Although the adaptor is rather ugly...

(I'd rather the lead was 12 inches longer, then I wouldn't have to look at my 2407's big grey socket sticking into the adaptor sticking into the MacBook, sheesh.)

A MacBook dock would be an option, but the only one I've seen is waaaa^ay overpriced.

Heh, I had post-bank holiday blues at work I think, I guess it's not much of an issue...
