I have finally managed to connect my MacBook to my new Samsung LCD TV, using a MiniDVI to DVI converter and a DVI to HDMI cable. This took a long time to achieve. But now I can't figure out how to play movies (on my MacBook) through the TV - which has been my objective all along. All that is visible is the desktop image and, when I open them, the 'Desktop/Screensaver' and 'Displays' folders. Even if (using DivX Player) I set the movie playing on the Desktop, the original image doesn't change.
Can anyone please help? Thanks

Are you mirroring or spanning the desktop (press fn-F7)?

Sorry - I'm not entirely sure what you mean. And pressing fn-F7 doesn't seem to do anything.

I should have said just F7, not fn-F7.
