Hey,
I am getting a macbook pro 1.83 intel core duo. What is the max ram I can put on it. Does it need to be dual slots as in both sticks need to be same amount? Can the amount differ? such as one slot is 2 gigs ram and the other is 512 mb ram?

2 GB is the max, both slots do not need to be the same amount, no.

Any module less than or equal to 1GB in each slot is OK.

Man,
That sucks. My freinds powerbook takes 2 gigs max as well. You would think they could increase the maximum on MBP's but they did so in the recent ones.

Maybe someone will release a workaround for the Rev. A Macbook Pros as they technically can handle 3GB. The motherboard + chipset were identical in the later Core 2 Macbook Pros, so the limitation is probably deliberate and in firmware.
