At this time i am mirrored. What I want to do is some photo retouching. I would like to read the tutorial from the laptop and follow the instructions on the external monitor. How can I do this. By being mirrored I can't do this. Thanks

You want different things on each screen, so you should be using spanning instead of mirroring.

What computer are you using? IIRC Macs automatically span when two monitors are plugged in.

thanks, I will give this a try. I am usig a G5 desktop and and a 13" mac book laptop. What is a IIRC ? Peeb, I solved my disc reading problem. The disc would not come up on the desk top but it did show up in finder. I clicked on it and was able to read the manual for my acer monitor. Hopefully, the two monitor thing will go as well. I am enjoying this site, it is so helpful and very enlighting.

IIRC is short for "If I Recall Correctly", not a type of Mac

You can also change the display settings in System Prefs, go to arrangement, and drag the monitors into place so that they're beside each other instead of ontop of each other. Obviously the monitor has to be plugged in for you to get to that menu.

That is not how you switch between mirroring and spanning.

You can only use the Mini-DVI output for one display at a time.

Matrox DualHead2Go if both the HDTV and monitor have VGA inputs.
