My Father just ordered a MacBook 13in, 2.0 GHZ, 1GB Memory, Combo Drive. My main purpose of getting a Mac is to run Photoshop CS3 on it. However I'm starting to worry if it is good enough for the new Photoshop. I know the MacBook Pro is the ideal Mac for photoshop but it's a little out of my price range. Will Photoshop work pretty well on my new MacBook or do I really need to move up to the next one with a superdrive or can I get away with just putting in 2 GB of Memory in stead? Please help me figure out what to do. I'm hoping I can just use my new one with out having to modify it. Thank you.

My friend has a 2GHz MacBook with 1GB of memory. Photoshop CS3 is pretty dang fast. You barely get to see the splash screen flash onto the screen before the program is running. With 2GB you'll surely be doing okay.

It should be fine, though the 13" display may be a little cramped so I hope you will be hooking it up to an external monitor.

I run cs3 on my white 1.8gh with a gig of ram. Most of my files are between 30-50mb before layers are added. Runs just fine. Also do a ton of indesign work with no issues whatsover. You will be very happy and won't be disappointed with speed or overall performance of the program.
Good luck

I also have the original 2GHz Core Duo MacBook (with 2GB of RAM) and Creative Suite 3 runs quite well on it.
I'll go out on a limb here and say you probably wouldn't actually see much difference in performance running Photoshop on a MacBook Pro anyway. Although the MacBook has a much lower end video chip, Photoshop still relies heavily on the processor (as opposed to, say Aperture, which uses Core Image which is impacted significantly by video card performance) and the processor is only about 10% faster on the MacBook Pro. My primary concern would be that you have plenty of RAM.

I would also recommend 2GB ram. But it won't be bad as is

I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended on my dual G4 and runs better than CS2 9.0.2.
A Core2 Duo Mac Book should be fine.
