my powerbook is driving me insane.

when i hit the power button sometimes all that i get is the optical drive starting up. so i have to hold down the power button and try again. sometimes this can take up to 20+ times to get the hdd going.

what should i do? i have already tried putting in a new hdd. what else is there that i can do??

Is this affected by being plugged in or not? Does this happen if you restart? What happens if you hear the optical drive make it's noise and just wait? Does the light on your latch glow?

Please describe these events in more detail if you want help. This is not a standard problem with a standard response.

I saw something like this with an old PowerBook G3 - it needed a new power management board. I don't know if the newer machines have the same issue. To reset the power manager hold down the power button (when the Mac is off) for 20 seconds. See what happens after that.
