I am new to mac. Can anyone tell me why my computer is backing up the whole file systems including system files to the network drive? I am connected to road runner and the network has a file named after road runner server. All my files are seen in this folder even when I am not connected to the network. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

What you see in Network - Servers as "This-is-the-name-of-your-computer".local IS your computer. (Actually, it's an alias to your computer, as you can tell from the little alias arrow in the bottom left of its icon.)

Your machine is part of your local network, and all machines that are part of your local network are listed there.

If you're not actually connected to any other machines, then your machine IS the local "network", so it's still listed there.
