Hey guys,
I have a CD 1.83 MacBook that I got way back on August '06. I noticed the other day that it has stress lines on the bottom right where the hot are comes out. Also, it has a small crack right on the front-left border and another crack on the other side that's about an inch long. Both of my friends' MacBooks have broke where the inch long crack is on mine.. But there's more! The top part of the MacBook, where the keyboard is, has come up a little above the MagSafe connector AND my charger broke (it needs to be on certain position for it to pass electricity, sometimes it doesn't even charge).
If I take the Mac to an Apple Representative here in Dominican Republic, would they do something about it?

Thanks in advance for any information you may provide =)

The Apple representative should replace it. It seems as though you just have a bad 'Book. There were a few issues with the original MacBooks cracking and what not, so assuming it's under warranty still they should fix it. Also, if you can keep it out of that beautiful Dominican Republic sun, that will help avoid cracks in the future . Apple white plastic can crack after extended time in the sun.

Oh.. Thank God, the MacBook is still under warranty! The MacBook is never directly under the sun, it must have been something else.

Thank you so much!

How come this thread hasn't been moved? Anyways, I noticed the other day that everything but the part around the screen needs to be changed!

'Cause I just saw it, that's why. Moved on June 9. Glenn

A friend of mine had the same issue, just just swapped it over with a new outer casing - a week later the motherboard went with it powering down - something melted inside, again they swapped the motherboard...

Apparently I'll be stuck with this computer 'till I head to college.. 2 freaking long years. I hope that nothing else happends to my MacBook. I have had the hard drive replaced twice and now almost the entire case AND the charger need to be replaced!

Good luck on getting it replaced. I wonder if Apple can make it a magnesium case to give it more strength yet keep it differentiated from the MB Pro while keeping the cost the same. I have a MB and love it, but will be getting a new MB Pro ASAP. Again, good luck with getting it attended to. Maybe you should write to big Steve?

Definitely call Apple. My first-gen MacBook had the discoloration problem. For various personal reasons (traveling most of the year after I bought it), I only called about 3 days before the warranty expired. They mailed me a box, I mailed it back with the MB, and Apple returned it a couple weeks later having fixed all discoloration and installing a new HDD for some reason.

Just make sure you back up all data before you send it in. I'm glad I did.

When I had an old school iMac, it kept going back for service- they couldn't find the culprit and replaced most internals. After it went in like the 4th time or something my local Mac place told me to call Apple and tell them I wanted my machine replaced, as it had XX many internals replaced on XX occasions. I had detailed notes about the problems and the dates they occurred, and notes on all my phone calls with Apple and what I/they said. Apple replaced my iMac with a newer(current at the time) version. I haven't had a real problem with any Mac since.

I have had the hard drive replaced twice! The charger died on me last night.. ARG.. Using the last bit of the battery now. I think that I'll be going to the Apple Representative tomorrow after school.

Wish me luck!

Just got off the phone with Apple. From what they told me, they're going to replace the case and the charger and check the fan... Very excited now =D.
