Hi, I am thinking about getting an ibook, clamshell model. I noticed, there are no..... latches for the top... how does it stay closed? are there any latches on the back that I should know about?

Thanks

It uses a magical RDF generator to make you think it's shut when it's really not there at all...

I think it uses springs so stay shut.

The Clamshells are latchless, yes. They were great, rugged (and heavy) Macs. My brother still uses my 466, which has had a really good run. It has been dropped a number of times without incident. Do, however, be aware of the fact that they are limited by their 800x600 screens (with no VGA output) and their processor speed. At this point you may want to opt for an iBook G4 or even a Aluminum PB instead, since they're probably pretty darn cheap now. (I just looked - many 1GHz iBook G4s are going for around $300 on ebay.)

yea, i just got one off ebay a little while ago. I did have a nice ibook g3 but the logic board problem claimed it about 3 months ago. And yesterday the Hard drive in my dell gave out, its the second Hard drive its gone through in about 2 months, and I looked up apple laptops, and apparently, this is one model that never had any real problems/recalls so i got one to stay mobile with, and check my email. I think it will work just fine for what i need one for. thanks for the replys!
