I nearly bought a macbook pro on ebay that had a 1.83 intel duo processor. I really want a new macbook, but if i did go for this one, what would i be sacrificing?
Very new to all of this... thank in advance for the advice.

Well the new macbooks come with either 2.0Ghz or 2.16Ghz intel core 2 duo processors (as opposed to just core duo), so you would be sacrificing some processing power.
They also come with a minimum of 1Gb of ram whereas i imagine the one your looking at on ebay only has 512Gb (if its standard build)
Also a new one will almost certainly have a bigger Hard drive (80-160Gb standard build)
I would get a new one and get apple care!!

If the one you were looking at had a DVD-R Superdrive, then the new ones are 8x and not 6x speed too.

The eBay one was a Macbook *Pro*. Big difference from a Macbook.
Start by looking at Apple's pages to see the differences.

Also check out Mac Specs, Prices, Answers, & More @ EveryMac.com - Established 1996 for comparing specs. Price and performance are going to the biggest factors. The one you see on eBay is going to be cheaper than a new MBP. Considerably cheaper? It should be. Look at Apple's refurbs too because I think they had the machine you're looking at for around $1300, and it comes with a warranty. Unless you're going to be playing games on your laptop, I'd suggest a MB. I'm hoping to upgrade from my 867MHz PB to the low-end MB soon because I don't need the Superdrive and the price is just under $1000 with educational discount. It's coming up with $1000 that's the hard part, at least, for me.
