Hmm a screen grab might help us!!
Are you sure you've not limited to picture setting on the camera to a small dimension?? (such as 640x480??)

im sure, and on my camera theres no way to change the dimensions, i just checked. Also, on my pc i never had a problem with the dimensions of the picture, they uploaded to a fine size, so its obviously something to do with iphoto maybe. Actually theyre a fine size in iphoto, its just when i go to my pictures folder and then the 'preview' comes up, that's not the actual size of the picture if they are coming up fine in iphoto right?
heres a screen grab,

What about the settings in record mode....under recorded pixels should be able to change it to various qualities!!
You should have it set to maximum... 5MP or 6MP!
Really confused by this

Though this has absolutely nothing to do with MacBooks, what's the size of the photo in iPhoto? Click the little "i" in the lower left corner to see the resolution. In the Finder, you may be opening up one of the thumbnails that iPhoto creates instead of the actual photo. If this is the case, export the photo from iPhoto, or set up iPhoto to open Preview when you double click a photo to see the actual photo.

Ah, now you're thinking! What happens when you try to run a slideshow in iPhoto?

Go to home --> pictures --> iPhoto library --> originals.
Can you see your photos there?

It means that the files are already part of an iPhoto library - they can't be re-imported. OK.
1. Restart your machine.
2. Launch iPhoto.
3. Are the photos there? If yes, stop there, and we'll deal with any other issues.
4. If not, close iPhoto. Go to to the 'originals' folder. Move it to the desktop.
5. Verify that all the photos are there.
6. Open iPhoto.
7. Drag the folder from your desktop to iPhoto. This should import the photos.
8. Tell me what happens/
