I have a powerbook (12") since March 2005. For quite sometime I was using a CRT monitor as an external display. Everything was just fine. Couple of days back I switched over to a flat panel LCD monitor. Now as long as the LCD monitor is connected and switched on, the PB is not staying in sleep mode.
Also, the PB gets switched on automatically the moment I switch on the monitor, without the need for me to press the power button on the PB.
Why is this happening and how can I correct this issue? The OS is 10.4.9
Thanks in advance.

When you say it's not staying in sleep mode, do you mean it's turning on and operating in closed lid mode? Do you have any USB devices attached? What is the make and model of the LCD? It's possible, though not probable, that the LCD you are using is turning on the circuitry that is used when you attach to an Apple display where you can push the power button on the display to wake, sleep, or shut down the machine.

Thanks Steve. Yes, it does turn on even in closed lid mode. When the monitor is disconnected, everything seems to be normal.
The 17" LCD monitor is some nameless Chinese make bought in a wholesale market. Now my concern is that, If it is capable of turning on the circuitry, whether it will lead to any other issues. Should I replace it altogether?
Thanks again.

sometimes, when i close the lid on my 12" pb (attached to an external monitor), it wakes up, as if a keyboard & mouse were attached (they're not).
try putting the 12" to sleep FIRST, then closing the lid.
this works for me every time...
