So yeah I bought a new MBP at the Apple Store yesterday. Once I got home I proceeded to start the "migration" process from my PowerBook G4, over a standard Firewire 400 cable. After a couple of hours, it was about 95% finished (saying 5 minutes left) but then it just froze! : /
I went to sleep thinking "aw, it will finish on its own" but in the morning it still had not finished.
So I just powered it off and restarted, and it had me go through the whole "welcome" process again. I just set up a new account. Then when I logged in, and logged back out, I noticed my old user accounts had indeed transferred over. All my old applications have transferred over as well, from what I can tell.
Still, I am nervous, since why would it not complete the transfer? I am worried something might not have been properly transferred over. I am considering reformatting the MBP hard drive, fresh installing the OS, and either trying the "migration" process again, or just manually transferring everything by hand (which I was hoping to avoid).
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Incidentally, I just noticed that nothing from my old Library/Applications Support folder was copied over. Now why would that be?

The fact that you got the welcome splash and had to create a new account is enough to know that indeed everything did not transfer over. If it had completed, you would have started up your new machine just like your old machine. The only times I have run into failed Migration Assistant transfers is when there are permissions problems and directory errors on the old machine. Fix those, start again!

Yeah it must have been permissions (doh). Well, I looked at the transfer log and it looked like it had successfully copied my applications and documents, and upon further inspection, it appears that only my /Library directory was not transferred. So, I just manually went through that directory and copied everything over by hand "the old fashioned way." That seems to have covered it, as I can't think of anything else that could possibly need to be copied over besides the Applications folder, Users folder, and Library folder. All my programs are launching fine and all my documents are there. Whew ;D
