According to speed tests, you'll see an increase in performance of your macbook pro when comparing these 2, even when comparing the 2 different 160's. How much storage do you need with you when portable? Does the 40gb make that big of a difference? You can always add a very fast FW800 later on down the line.

I'd take the 160GB/7200RPM. If Apple offered the 200/250GB 5400RPM, I'd take those, but not 4200RPM.

Definitely no on the 4200, I had a titanium powerbook with a 4200. It was molasses slow, when I replaced the HD with a 5400 it was almost twice as fast (loading apps, startup etc.)
