hi, when i put my clamshell to sleep, with the top down, if the charger is plugged in, it wakes up, but, if i leave the top open, and have the ibook sleep, it will remain asleep. However, if i unplug the power cord, and have it sleep on battery, it will reamin sleeping no matter if it is closed or open... are all clamshells like this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Is your battery still good? e.g. does hold more than 15 minutes of charge? If not, the iBook could be trying to save itself from losing data due to a borked or drained battery.

Otherwise, I'm 99% certain my own clamshell doesn't do that. It comes out of sleep by opening the lid, regardless of its power source.

My battery is still good, it holds a good 3 1/2 hour charge. I have noticed, whn I plug it in, and close the top. It goes to sleep for about two seconds, just enough for the light to come on, and light up once, then it wakes itself back up, stays on for about five seconds, then goes back to sleep, and repeats the process until i open the screen, either waking it up, or catching it in sleep mode, and it stays asleep. But only if the top is open. If i have it going on straight battery power then it will sleep with the lid closed fine... Weird...

By the way, it does this both with Os 9 and Os X 10.3.9

Did you recently install RAM and/or an Airport card? Make sure the keyboard is snapped into place correctly, and make sure no keys are pressing against the display.

If it's on battery and you close the lid, it does go to sleep normally?

I did put in a new airport card, but if i have the battery in, and it is NOT plugged in, if i close the top, it remains asleep If I do plug it in, It wakes up instantly, and then goes into the cycle of going to sleep, and waking up going to sleep and waking up...

I am using a powerbook brick charger, but it is the same wattage as the ibook, so i dont think that's the problem either... As long as I keep the top open, while its plugged in, it will stay asleep, i only have the problem when
1. It is plugged in, and the top is closed.
I do not have the problem with any other combination... I have no idea whats up with it, as my powerbook, and my other ibook only wake up if I have something between the keys and screen, or open them up...
