Hello

I want to be me a new Macbook Pro Laptop and I was wondering for wich one i should go...
I don't play games on my computer I'm using it only for office work, a bit image editing with Aperture and all the media stuff like watching movies etc.

I'm using a 30 inch ACD as external display where I want to hook up the laptop.

Do you guys have any suggestions if the 256 mb version is worth the extra money? Is there a performance gain on big screens with more vram? I heared that vram is only important for gaming and 128 are more then enough even for a 30 inch display.

Thanks in advance for your comments

VRAM is important for... apps that use a lot of VRAM. Most games don't need a lot, but a few do for textures (Doom 3 has some 'ultimate' or similar texture level that needs 512MB VRAM). Most pro apps (Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, etc) don't need a lot, but a few do (Aperture and Motion come to mind). Watching movies or viewing photos doesn't need much VRAM.

With a 30" and Aperture, I'd go with the 256MB option. If you use virtual desktops (finally appearing in Leopard), that will also increase your need for VRAM.

Because you mentioned Aperture, I'd say yes, the VRAM upgrade is worth it.
