The MBPs were just brought up to Santa Rosa and the 15" has an LED screen. Now's a great time to buy. They're not likely to see major changes so unless you're happy to wait a few more months for Leopard, you'd be picking up a great notebook.
Do you have any other concerns besides wanting to wait for Leopard? I don't think anyone in their right mind would tell you to wait unless there was something hardware-specific that was holding you back.
Hapy hunting!

Hi,
I am in the market for a macbook pro as well. I have an old powerbook g4 on hand for the moment, I can work with it and wait for the new system bundled on the macbook pro. If you don't really need it for now, why not wait a bit ? Who knows, maybe the macbook pros will be honed a bit, as the Santa Rosa and LED technology are new.

Unless you really want to wait for Leopard I don't think there will much of an upgrade to hardware if you wait. Leopard is only few a months away so computer speeds and technology will probably not improve by much. Even though I'll upgrade to Leopard when it comes out, I still think Tiger is a great OS. I prefer it over Panther. If I had the money I would upgrade my laptop now instead of waiting. The small handful of reviews for the LED screens are very promising...but I've been waiting a very long time for laptop monitor technology to improve so that my eyes will be happy.

The Merom C2D MBPs are excellent and the new Santa Rosa even better. If one needs a laptop waiting makes no sense. Of course if one does not need a new laptop then there is no need to buy at all, either now or in October.
The idea of waiting until October to save the $129 cost of OS 10.5 does make sense if one is currently working fine on an older-but-marginal PB G4.

Like everyone else has said, if you're in the market for a new laptop and are ready to buy then there isn't a much better time than now.
The main reason I haven't traded out my 17" PowerBook for a 17" MacBook Pro yet is because my PowerBook is still going strong. I'll see how 10.5 runs on it and decided then how much longer I'll wait to upgrade.
@zorrito. The MacBook Pros were upgraded last week, there definitely wasn't going to be any upgrade to them yesterday. If you're wanting to buy one, buy one now. You're spending >$1,999, what's an extra $129 in 4 months time?

Buy now if you're happy with the current hardware... Leopard is a trivial expense (~2-6%) compared to a decent MBP.

Hi, I just bought a MacBook Pro a few weeks ago... (Yes. Just before the 2,3 MacBook Pro Version..) But I dont really care because there are very minor changes...
So, Lets get back to do story... If you want to buy your MacBook Pro before Leopard gets in stores, there is no problem. You know why? Because when Leopard will hit the stores, Apple will give you a license to upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5. ;
Personally, Apple Mac OS 10.5 has no MAJOR changes. If you want to see real major changes you'll need to wait til Mac OS 11 .
I hope this helped you, Cheers.

So, you're saying that Apple is just going to give away 'upgrade' copies of 10.5?? I don't think this is gunna happen... :S

No offense, but what were you smoking? Apple will give you 10.5 when you shell out $129. No major changes, huh? Just like 10.4 was no major change from 10.3?

I have to agree. Leopard is going to come in one version, the $129 version. Apple's not going to give you a cheaper upgrade path, especially when 2/3 of the Mac user base are on Tiger, with that number growing with each new Mac purchase.
But the important point for the original poster is this: Is 4 months of putting off using the latest MacBook Pro worth $129? I'd suggest that the value of a just-announced computer is worth the $129 over the next 4 months if you consider the same computer is worth less 4 months from now (loss opportunity cost, depreciation).
While the best time to buy a computer is when you need it, the time to buy to get the most value out of a new computer is when the product has just been announced.

If you're eligible for an education discount, you could get Leopard for as low as $69.

If you are using an Al G4 powerbook running office / safari / Mail then I'd wait until 10.5 comes out because you have a great machine already.

May I add that, if iLife 07 goes out meanwhile, then waiting until October would be the best.
