so i reinstalled a new hd in my ibook old one died on me, what a pain in the a$$ that was. Now I am trying to install mac os x no luck, I assume I need to format the drive first since it isn't recognized. I do not have the disk utility cd that I need to do this. Is it possibly to burn disk utility off another mac and burn it as a bootable cd? if so how do i do this?

You don't have OSX discs?
If you have you can use disk utility from the DVD (when the DVD starts you will have a menu bar on top and from there you can load Disk Utility)
If you don't, you can start your ibook in target disk mode (pressing T on startup) and conect via firewire on another Mac and format and install.
I hope it helps,

sorry about my english, i'm from brazil

The Dr. is right, boot from the OS X disk, choose your language, go to Utilities in the Menu bar and select Disk Utility.

AppleJack is a great utility for times like these, if you don't have the OS X install disc handy. (Although it doesn't help if one can't boot up to install.)
